Elka’s first ambition was to illustrate children’s books. But instead of making pictures for other people’s stories, she became an art historian, and spent years telling stories about other people’s pictures.
She’s lectured in art history, the history of dress, medieval art, and the history of illustrated books for children. In 2015 she came to the UK from Massachusetts, and completed an MA in creative writing for children at Bath Spa University in 2016.
Her first book, Granny Magic, was published by Chicken House in 2019. She lives in Gloucestershire with her husband.
